What is a “brown pub”? I’ve heard of “brown cafes” in Amsterdam, but I have a feeling that you mean something different here.

    • As you se I put “brown” in quotation mark, that only means that most pub’s in UK have brown interior, which is quite seldom in Norway … so therefore Norwegians just say “brown” pub … apart from that it doe’s not mean anything. We don’t have this pub-culture in Norway, we only go to the pup sometimes on Friday and Saturday, not like UK as many also go to the pub on a work day. I should mayby be carefull with such “imprecise norwegian-english translation” as “brown” pub/cafes etc. as it might mean something else in other countries.

I get you. Some of them do look brownish, with all their wooden furniture. It sometimes looks as though they have lifted the seats from a church – all varnished pews.
